Texas Aries continued plagiarism...
In the professional and amateur world of writing, plagairism is considered a scourge. Unlike professional writers, fan fiction writers have no legal recourses in which to stop a plagiarist from committing their crimes. Fan fiction communities have to rely on the integrity of each author to stay on an even keel. When plagiairism does happen, it is up the fan fiction community to take action and make available the actions of the plagiarist to everyone in the community and beyond. My hope is that archivists in the "Magnificent Seven" fandom will take note of what has occurred and possibly think twice about hosting any fan fiction for the author Texas Aries.Following are records of recent events in the M7 fandom, an original section of a WIP being written by a group of writers on the Drinking n' Fighting group and a plagiarized section by Texas Aries submitted as her contribution to a round robin story on the Tour of Duty (ToD) group. The records include private and public (group) emails surrounding the issue of the plagiarism, as well as ad hominem attacks, flaming, trolling and other childish and inappropriate behavior from the author in question. Please make of it what you will. If you find yourself agreeing with the points brought about on this page, please feel free to link to and share this URL with anyone you feel would benefit from the reading of this.

Luna Dey's thoughts on having her story plagiarized by Texas Aries
Luna Dey's actual story and Texas Aries plagiarized version YOUBETHEJUDGE05/16/08 UPDATE: She's back! Texas Aries has popped up in the guise of yet another anonymous sock puppet, this time accusing author Charlotte C Hill of plagiarizing from (wait for it, wait for it... pow! you guessed it!) Texas Aries. You can see the exchange at M7 Slash Fanfiction Archive. The story title is "Things That Go Bump" by Charlotte C Hill. You don't need to read the story (if slash isn't your thing), but if you click on the reviews (there are 6 of them), you can read what Texas Aries wrote and the author's comments.
01/15/06 UPDATE: Once again, the author/site admin of the WOLF REPORT has decided that people can't read the report from this site and has blocked access from our direct link. So, no problem, we removed the hotlink. Seems pretty funny that the author insists that ALL sites condemning Texas Aries as a plagiarist MUST include the refuting WOLF REPORT and yet she/it/they won't allow it access from here. Which really isn't a big deal now. We've heard from people who have attempted to read the WOLF REPORT and no one has been able to make heads or tails of it. Altho it shouldn't come as a surprise, hypocrites, liars and cheats always try to get the spotlight off themselves by doing odd things. Why bother anymore, we wonder? Texas Aries is such a pariah in the "Magnificent Seven" and "Tour of Duty" fandoms that even if anyone is reading her they'd never admit to it, so really what have she/they/it proved by blocking a link? Good riddance to bad rubbish.
02/08/05 UPDATE: Good news. The new M7 lists that Texas Aries (or Texas Aries's mom according to the admin running these lists) had created are now gone. (I don't know anyone of us who actually believed this woman was Texas Aries's mother.) It's clear that the M7 fandom will not tolerate plagiarism in any form.
02/04/05 UPDATE: We wanted to pass on a warning. The author Texas Aries, M7 plagiarist, is back amongst us. She's now going by the moniker of Sanctuary_Mom and is running three lists, M7 Slash Sanctuary, M7 Gen Sanctuary and M7 Hetro Sanctuary. For any writers who have joined any of her lists, it would be a good idea to go back and read the rules. She has some pretty unusual and loose ideas of what constitutes plagiarism. We just find it amazing that she would even attempt a come back after she so clearly stated that she was leaving the active fandom in disgust.
01/04/05 UPDATE: Well, wonders never cease, the WOLF REPORT has indeed been resurrected; http://www.lonetreecp.org/NFic/wolfreport/index1.htm And some may have noticed that it continues to change URL destination. Why? We're not sure. After all the author of the Wolf Report insists that each site that is offering information about Texas Aries's plagiarism MUST include the link to her report and the report itself also states in section 1.2, under the heading Audience, that "This document will be available to all members of the Magnificent Seven fiction communities and to anyone else that has an interest." We've stated our interest to the webmistress that we'd like to link to the report, so we'll see if she continues to move it around. It's one more example of the unfailing hypocrisy that this group of individuals excells in, but we're determined and will keep updating the link.
There was some initial thought to doing a rebuttal, but after reading this version of the report through it really is as we decided before, a moot point. The author not only contradicts herself for the majority of it, she also makes the weirdest, wildly unfounded claims we've ever seen. She didn't leave anything for us to call her on, she did a good enough job herself. But please, please, don't take our word for it. Go have a good laugh...oh, we mean read...go have a good read, and remember there is a contact email link for comments about this newest inception of the Wolf Report.
10/02/04 - UPDATE: The bogus "Wolf Report" is no longer online. The hope is that Texas Aries will discontinue trying to prove that she is innocent of plagiarism through puppet identities and all the drama involved with it with disappear.
09/19/04 - UPDATE: An entity going by the name of Wolf (a Texas Aries alias) has sent a threatening letter to members of the Magnificent Seven fandom community that she considers to be aof high standing. Read it HERE.

Texas,
Sorry--I just found your email address, have been a tad too busy lately!
A mutual friend told me about the story you posted to the Tour of Duty list, and I need to know if you've checked in with any of the authors working on the original story... I was very uncomfortable to learn that you'd taken the text we're using in the story verbatim, and really wish that you hadn't.
Can you let me know what's up with that?
hugs,
Charlotte

Hello Charlotte!
WOOOPPPPP@!!!!
Crap! I posted the wrong thing! I have the story from DNF downloaded on my computer and was working on the TOD round robin. I then got a virus but it only corrupted a few files but I caught it in time. I have a few story that have merge together and didn't notice when I posted, was too much in a hurry before going on vaction. I have deleted the posting from TOD list.
Sorry! Promise it won't happen again. I have moved my TOD to another Drive and my M7 stuff to another.
Thanks for letting me know. I hope you don't mind me suggesting the RR to TOD. They were looking for an idea.

Whew! Okay, no problem, I understand how weird stuff can happen. And honestly, if everyone who wrote for the story--after it was finished and posted of course--said "okay, let her have it," then I'd support that. But I'm glad you understand my desire to kind of protect the story until it's finished and everything.
If you wouldn't mind... maybe you could just post a small "sorry" of some kind, or some kind of small explanation to your list, so that when we all do get around to finishing Room Key, folks won't think we, um, well, lifted it or anything? ...

Uh, just to clarify... you posted the idea of *a* round robin? I think that's fantastic. You posted the idea of "The Room Key to Happiness" *as* a round robin?
Actually, I'd really prefer if you didn't, or if you retracted it or something, because that's actually Rick's idea, and--well, at the very least I'd encourage you to check with him about it, but still, just my personal opinion, I'd far prefer to be able to finish what we're doing on DnF before the idea gets really passed around. That's assuming Rick's okay with the passing?
Let me know, and if you like I'll mention it to Rick.

If you want but like most things over at TOD it died. One person wrote a beginning and that was two weeks go and nothing has been added. You can tell him if you want but since it died it might be a moot point.

I'm writing to tell you that I appreciate your pulling the story in progress by the several authors on DnF that you took, changed pieces of, and posted the ToD list. I also need to let you know that enough writers are aware of the event that they wanted discussion. The following things got concluded.
1. It was nigh on impossible for a virus to be the cause of the changes in the copy of the "Room Key" story you posted onto ToD. (You had told me that a virus did it.)
2. The ToD moderators' announcement seemed very incriminating to you, given that there was at least other story that had been plagiarized and some appartent misunderstanding on your part about whether you had, in fact, been plagiarizing.
3. The writers of "Room Key" are angry and offended, and request that you make a public announcement explaining the plagiarism to DnF members. Please feel free to explain anything you'd like, but understand that regardless of your knowledge when you took Rhonda's and then our group's story, what you did absolutely equals plagiarism. This public announcement to DnF would be an acceptable recompense for the authors, and I wouldn't feel compelled to take any further action at this time.
Assuming that your post is appropriately written (i.e. you acknowledge that you plagiarized, you make it clear that at least as of now you understand that plagiarizing isn't acceptable, and you apologize to the writers for taking their story and passing it as your own without anyone's permission), I'm willing to invite you to stay on at DnF, with the understanding that you won't ever do this again.
Please let me know if you'd like to take advantage of this opportunity to clear the air, okay? Or, alternately, feel free to post your apology to the DnF list. On a personal note, I want to tell you that this kind of opportunity might be your last, best chance to remain active in M7 fandom. I really recommend that you take advantage of it.
Best of luck,
Charlotte

Subject: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Plagiarism and banning
To: Drinking'nFighting
We've had a run-in with plagiarism with one of our former members, and after a discussion of the issue among all of the DnF members who were directly affected, the following announcement was unanimously** approved:
1. Plagiarism is not acceptable. Plagiarism includes the taking of lines, sentences, sections or an entire story, making minor changes, and then posting the story somewhere else and claiming it as your own.
We Don't Do That Here. We Don't Do That With Fic From Here. Enough said.
2. TexasAries has been banned from the list for plagiarizing. For details on an older known offense, see http://malarkey7.tripod.com/plagiarism/YOUBETHEJUDGE.htm
I have no plans to offer details on the DnF-related plagiarism, other than to say that I saw the file with my own eyes, it was very clear that it was our "Room Key to Paradise," and that when asked, Texas did not clarify the issue or announce the actual ownership of the story to the (other fandom) list on which she posted the plagiarized story.
Texas's contribution effort to "Room Key to Happiness" hadn't yet been incorporated, and now it will not be, not in whole or in part. The group has opted to reject this one author, but invites everyone else who hasn't tried their hand to step right up!
If after a period of one year, Texas would like to rejoin the list (and of course, if there are no further offenses), she is welcome to do so.
I emailed Texas recently and invited her to post an apology, acknowledge her understanding of plagiarism, and a promise never to do it again. She is apparently on vacation, and when she gets back she can email me. If she chooses to make amends as best she can, I and the affected group will consider reinstating her sooner.
3. We're all adults, and while the issue may be offensive or upsetting, it is not international war. The issue has been handled, and it's all pretty much over and done with for the time being. If you have questions or comments, please remember to include "OT" in any subject lines posted to the list.
4. We Do Not Condone Flames or ad hominem Attacks.
**The group who came to this decision includes: Kitipurr, Raven, Kim, Stan, Rick, Cobalt, Katy, Megan and myself
I sincerely thank them for their thoughtfulness, honest feedback, and participation in what has been, for me, a somewhat stressful event.
Thanks to all (and now let's get back to chatting onlist and posting fic!),
Charlotte
---------------------------------------- Texas Aries's public responses to the DnF list after the email from DnF list admin notifying her on the decision from DnF. She is using the alias KMFLWA, but it's clear that this person is Texas Aries, same type of writing mistakes, the two clearest clues to it being Texas Aries is the verb tense confusion, and strange language syntax throughout the email. Please read and decide for yourself. There are a few very telling errors occuring throughout, most notably the use of the word FATHOM instead of FANDOM by both Texas Aries and KMFLWA. Texas Aries is still the only person who continually uses the word FATHOM instead of FANDOM (for a direct from the source example of that, please check out Texas Aries's Rebuttal). Notice that Texas Aries is responding to the Tour of Duty plagiarism charges and not the DnF "Room Key to Paradise" plagiarism charges. A ToD list moderator later filled us in to the fact that Texas had done this more than once before in the ToD fandom.

You see I have a confession to make so please bear with me till the end.
You see I met and work with this wonderful woman who found out that I was a Tour of Duty Fan. She then introduced me to fanfiction and kindly told me the difference between general and slash. But because I have only access to the internet at work she kindly told me her password and username so that I could login in during my lunch hour to read the stories on those TOD groups. You might wonder why I didn't make an yahoo mail account well you see because of all the viruses out there the IT department didn't want anyone to access their own personal e-mail from work fear that a virus could get lose in the company. To do this they locked out all the sites. The only way for me to read the stories was though the egroups using her username and password.
Then when I got my bonus in November of 2003 I bought a computer, which she kindly spent hours with me, set it up. She help me sign up for a yahoo mail account and show me how to search and join list on my own. Then in December of 2003 I almost lost my friend. She lost almost half of her blood over a 10-day period. Thankfully, the doctors had got it stop. She told me that she has discussed this with a couple of people on this list. I believe their names are setcheti1@y..., cobalt, conquer1 and many others.
The doctors decided that it was just too risk to perform a blood transfusion because of AIDS, HIV, and HIP C so she had to build up her blood herself. This took over a year to do. Most women who lost that amount of blood would be flat on their backs at the hospital for a week and then sent home for another two weeks, but not her. The first week she work only half days before going home to collapse sleeping almost 12 hours. The second week she was back full time but look like death and struggled for almost 6 months to even function. Her skin was so white that paper seemed dark by comparison. She had dark rings around her eyes and she had no energy to do anything. Even sitting made her tried but she came in every day. This had everyone who knew her coming to see her and phoning to make sure she was all right. Everyone was worried and we kept an eye on her. The will and fortitude this woman displayed impressed everyone, her bosses, co-workers, everyone. She isn't the kind that wants pity so she only told a few selected individuals, but working for a small company everyone found out.
In February 2003 she came down to visit me during a break in the course she was taking and showed me a cute general story from Magificent Seven. She wished that someone would write a similar story in Tour of Duty fathom. So when she left I looked over the story and thought I could write it for her!
You see that was the first time in a couple of months that I saw a smile on her face. So I took that story and change the characters, the dialogue and the setting. Then in my great wisdom I thought I put her name on it so that people would read it and send her feedback. I figure it might make her feel better. So I quickly put the story together and used her account I post the story at work. The only thing was that no one even acknowledged the posting except one and I was the one to answer the single email. That person wanted to know where I came up with the idea so I told her and providing her with a link and everything!.
My friend didn't see it because she was in training for a couple of days and she was so exhausted by the time she got home that she went into her account and deleted everything figuring when she was better she go back and read the stories. By the time she was better she had lost interest in Tour of Duty fathom. You see everyone on the list was constantly ignoring her so she decided to concertrate on her other fathom which is M7.
Now as to why I didn't tell my friend, is very simple it was yearend. I'm an accountant … enough said. I forgot all about that story until she call me Saturday to tell me I will not be able to read any more TOD fanfic stories because of this. It was then I remembered what I did and I told her.
She was mad but being the wonderful person she is that she forgave me. Telling me that everyone is human and mistakes happen. Everyone deserves a second change or even a third, but she told me to never EVER to do this again. WHICH I WON'T!!!
She has been a good list sib and has never given you any doubt as to her character but you have decided in your wisdom that she was guilty. Well she's not! I am!
I was the one to write "Listening at the Door" not Texas Aries. All she did was wish that someone would write something like it. It was I that came up with the brilliant idea and she had no knowledge of it. I at least will get my friend back but you … you lost a great writer and a friend.
Now before I finish I just wanted to blast one person by the name of Charlottehill from the M7 fathom. She is a little bitch that must have been jealous of Texas's and her writing for a long time and decided to ruin her in anyway possible. Well I hope this makes it to those lists and everyone knows what kind of dirty, underhanded, backstabbing bitch she is.
Texas Aries has been trial and convicted of doing something she didn't do. The story she is accused of copy is General and she writes only Slash in Tour of Duty. That it wasn't even in her style or that … please forgive me Texas if you ever see this … that there are no grammar errors. For those of you that don't know, Tex has a learning disability that she had struggled with for years to overcome. She had succeeded up to a point so that no one at work but me knows. In fic writing she uses a beta reader to help her check her stories. None of those PTBs checked with her beta which is setcheti1@y.... I hope that those who are doing everything in their power to get Texas Aries out of the fathom are all happy about this because you have kicked someone in the teeth who has been fighting peoples' bigotry attitudes all her life. Just because she has a learning disability people think that she is somehow inferior to them. Congrates!
No one noticed that the quality of the story was so far from Texas's that it was laughable. Her stories are complex and LONG!!! But I think they are looking for any excuse to kick her off the list because she writes slash … and not just for M7! Why do I say this because I see them doing the same thing to some other authors that are multi-fathom writer. You guys know who you are for your next on the list!
Those who sentence her to be kicked off the various list are idiots and I hope that you feel like dog s**t. She didn't want me to post this because she figure that the PTBs would think that I'm am lying. She even guessed that the PTBs would say that I'm really Tex but I'm not.
Me I could care less what you think of me. You see the only one that matters to me is Texas Aries and I want to make this right between us.
If you see this please pass it on. Let them know that I was the one to write the fic she was accused of coping.
Rhonda if you see this I have been trying to find a way to contact you. Please contact me for I wish to appologize for I'm a newbie and didn't know what I did was wrong. Tex had no knowledge about this at all. If anyone is to blame it is me.

Charolette never pull Texas Aries stories because TEX did it herself!!
She was told that her parts were not welcome nor needed by Charolette. Because of that offlist comment she pulled her parts intenting to use them in a story she might write in the future. I wonder how many others have been told by Miss hotstuff that their parts were not welcome. Hmmmmm????
Personally I think this no longer a RR because if it doesn't meet Miss CharoletteHill criteria it gets shotdown. I never seen a RR like this in any of the fathoms I am part of.
Just my two cents worth.

First, you don't get AIDS from a blood transfusion, you get the HIV virus which then eventually leads to AIDS. And HIP C is, i guess, Hep C? Second, blood is very thoroughly screened and if your friend lost half of her blood and they did not transfuse her, then she should sue. She would easily win. People in much better shape than that get transfusions all the time.

Texas Aries has been trial and convicted of doing something she didn't do.That would be your fault and no one elses. Well, possibly your friend's fault for trusting you.
Just because she has a learning disability people think that she is somehow inferiorto them. Congrates!Well, I never read the story but I do work with people who have learning disabilities, and judging by the huge number of errors in your post, it looks like you might have one. Either that or you are so busy ranting and trying to shift the blame from yourself to others, that you aren't paying attention to your typing.
I'm going to go with the learning disability theory though. In the first 2 paragraph alone there were 8 especially blatant mistakes, most surrounding inappropriate tense usage.
Her stories are complex and LONG!!! But I think they are looking for any excuse to kick her off the list because she writes slash! There are more slash than hetero stories on this list. So your conclusion is obviously incorrect.
If anyone is to blame it is me.Gosh, you finally said something true! Way to go. So, let me get this straight you're asking us to believe your friend is innocent on the basis of the fact that he writing is incredibly bad and so obviously the illegally plagarized story couldn't have been written by her?

Typical! She told me that would happen and guess what it did! I'm a 265 pound white woman that lives in Texas. I'm not her, but that's up to the rest of you. You can believe or disbelieve.
I'm the one that wrote that story so I figure it's up to the list what they want to believe or not. I'm not lying but are you?

First and foremost, yes, I have now banned this incarnation from DnF, as well.
Just to get everything out in the open... The most relevant items regarding this new "person" are,
1) she's discussing the story that *someone* plagiarized on another list, a long time ago (Luna Dey's story). The thing *I* banned Texas for was her plagiarism of "Room Key to Paradise."
That's a different story, and I'm sure Texas knows this, because I sent her a detailed email, which I'll post to the files section with a sample of the plagiarized story for people's review.
2) I'd have banned the new person for flaming (even though it was mostly me being flamed, and I think admins must have a higher tolerance if they want to do a good job), if not for all of the, well, weirdness.
3) It's really not relevant whether this "person" is Texas or not; the information is incorrect and inflamatory, and her behavior is far from the warm and fuzzy atmosphere we've been blessed to have here. So, you know, who cares if it's Texas or not? Let "her" be a separate person, you know?
4) To my recollection, I never asked Texas to pull any part of the text she had offered to "Room Key to Paradise," though it is true that the group of writers determined that it was unacceptable to include any piece of her offering, for various reasons.
5) I've never thought of our group story as a "round robin," though that is exactly ho Texas described it.
And finally, 6) I state now and for the record that I have never been jealous of Texas's writing. (In fact, it's incredibly rare that I'm jealous of *anyone's* writing.) And, more relevant, this bit of the original email has been being amended to attack whichever list admins the post is being addressed to. ::sigh::
Okay, not finally.
A couple of things in a post to follow. ;) Charlotte ("Miss Hotstuff")

Damn, I spend a Sunday playing with the hubby and kids and I miss all the good stuff. (ooh, I'm whining now - how attractive...::snerk::...)
Charlotte, personally I think you should go for for complete domination and become Supreme Bitch of the World. I mean, why not reach for the top...::snort::!
Shit, Fat Ass's whole "Ask Row, she know" regarding a blood transfusion is so fucking wrong on so many counts. (Row is pissed) For those of you who don't know, conjured_1 is also Row who is also Steph, and right now Row's yahoo account (rowan_writes@y...) is full of Fat Ass's pleadings for Row to help her friend Tex, etc., etc.
To begin with, I've kept all of my emails regarding this plagiarism/Tex BS private between Char and cobalt, because I was mentioned by Tex privately(hand puppet, etc), but now that I'm being mentioned publicly, I thought I'd answer publicly. For those of you who don't care (and really, I wouldn't either *bg*, you might want to delete now...)
1) Yes, I have known Tex for a few years on and off the internet. No, I don't ever recall of Tex ever having a blood disease that required a transfusion that wasn't done, due to whatever. And I really resent that she's trying to bring me into this. I would have NEVER suggested she use that kind of bullshit excuse. I would have given her a REAL disease, guaranteed to tug on the heart strings, but she never asked for my help. So there ya go, she flubbed her 'disease' but well and good.
2) I understand why Tex is trying to bring everyone she can into this bit of tragedy she created, i.e., someone else wrote it, I was sick and dying, blah, blah, blah... And I could probably even explain why, but who the hell wants to listen to psychobabble. Suffice to say, she doesn't take being found to be a lying, cheating person very well and is trying the most pathetic way she can to cover for it. Hmm, she's denying all over the place (in the form of the mysterious person from work), wonder if she's addicted to plagiarism. Most addicts deny when caught. Just a thought...::snerky laugh::...
3) Of course KMFLWAXXX (or whatever) is Tex. I have done beta work for Tex in the past (long distant past), and can say without a doubt that the puppet person is Tex. Only one person on earth I know who runs rough shod over tense and absolutely refuses to spell check anything - that's Tex.
4) Having done beta work for Tex, I know she has plagiarized work in the past (a couple of years ago) - from Mercedes Lackey. At the time it was handled thusly: We talked about. She said she was confused about what plagiarism was completely versus using copy righted characters in fanfic and I explained. She gave me reassurances that she wouldn't do it again. As far as I know she has NEVER posted the story that I am talking about. But I don't know about all the lists she is on, so it could be out there.
5) I don't beta for Tex anymore. I haven't for at least a year. I feel the need to repeat that... I DON'T BETA FOR TEX ANYMORE. HAVEN'T FOR AT LEAST A YEAR. And had no knowledge of her taking others Mag 7 work and making it her own on ToD and vice versa.
Okay, I'm done with my rant. I'm relieved that Fat Ass has been banned. Won't stop Tex from coming back under another name. To bad we can't ban by IP.

"It wasn't me, it was my sockpuppet/evil twin"
"I was sick/almost died"
"My sockpuppet didn't know that what he/she/it was doing was wrong"Yeah, right.
I particularly liked the idea that the sockpuppet (an accountant) was such a ditz that she couldn't set up her own yahoo email, and that reading websites/email using someone else's addy wouldn't annoy the IT people or allow viruses, etc, from getting into a network.
Too bad Lily Fat Ass's "fathoms" didn't include Star Trek or she could have pulled out my all time favorite insult to use and called Charlotte a "swaggering, overbearing, tin-plated dictator with delusions of god-hood"

To: texasariesRecent events have brought questions to my inbox regarding the CBD list and your participation/presence. The basic tone of everyone’s concerns is simple: we don’t like or condone the plagiarism and we don’t want to see it pass by unchecked.
One of the main issues is trust. Do we trust you not to plagiarize again – do we trust that what’s been written for CBD hasn’t been plagiarized – do we trust you won’t lift something from us in the future? That point is especially provocative considering the rules of CBD to hold posting elsewhere until the challenge period has elapsed. None of this is a comfortable feeling, this kernel of doubt that now exists regarding your authorship. Someone’s emailed concerns mentioned they question the honesty of all your archived work stemming from the known incidents of plagiarism. I cannot disagree.
CBD is a list for writers. That is one of the reasons direct action of some sort seems necessary – it isn’t just a large group of us lurking, reading, passively enjoying a list. We are a small group, a group that has the main purpose of writing and supporting one another as writers. There is something that simply does not sit well that within our small group of writers there is a plagiarist - something that is unacceptable in every and all writing forums.
Personally I’m disappointed and angered that I was directly involved as one of the writers violated. Beyond, I was not the only member of CBD who had participated in the “Room Key” story. I am not the only one who found your actions hurtful and difficult to overlook and forgive. This includes some who voiced such an opinion who were not part of the RK collaboration.
The personal integrity of the writers we are depends solely on that – our personal integrity. Your actions have reduced that which you had to almost none, at least for now and the near future. It also shadows the overall integrity of the CBD writers and our list, another matter that garnered concern. From what I have been told, the majority are no longer comfortable or welcoming of your presence, despite there being no proven grievance that occurred on our list directly. Your actions elsewhere – the incidents of plagiarism and almost more importantly your responses to being discovered – were more than enough prompting for questions, concerns and general discomforts.
I had no good answer for everyone involved who wrote me save that I would address this with you and see what transpires. It is only fair you know that feelings towards you are not favorable or tolerant at this point in time. I also have no good answer for a solution, but like what was requested with RK, acknowledgement, apologies and amendments is but a start.
My instinct is to remove you from the list; I’m writing to provide you with the opportunity to at the least address these serious matters. I leave that for you to do – after that, there is nothing better to say.

Cobolt,
I have been away on vacation, which I have used to spend time with my father who has just been diagnosed with Cancer. And what do I come home too but … this. You have met and know me personally but you never thought to email me and ask me what was going on or ask me for my side of things.
You called into question my character and my writing ability. Throwing in trust for good measure. Well Trust is a two way street. Question my writing is below the belt. When have I ever given you caused that my stories weren’t original? If you use your brain, that you obvious haven’t been exercising, you might realize that since the challenges were specific and I answered them using the criteria in the challenge then questioning my working is just ignorant.
What none of you have realized is that I have a partner, who helps me writing my stories, you might know her … MotherRati. I tell her ALL my ideas and she helps me work them out before putting them to paper. She also read EVERYTHING I write and I mean EVERYTHING so you call me a thief is calling her one too. That is something that I am not going to forgive.
As to Luna’s story KMF wrote that story in February 2003 and not me. She was a newbie to not only fanfiction but the Internet as well since at the time didn’t have a computer. I allowed her to use my account during lunch to read stories. She didn’t realize that in fanfiction what she did was wrong. She just followed the Publishing rules, that have taught in school, by giving credit to the author of the original story. When all of this started she did the responsible thing and step up. Admitting to anyone that would listen that she was the one to write the story.
She knew that she was going to be ripped apart because of the reputation that this fathom has. But when she tried to do the adult thing she was told that she was me. Funny I don’t think she looks anything like me. She explained how and why she did what she did and I think you have seen it. So I won’t go into it here. You don’t believe her then it’s not my problem. If you like to email her at kmflwaxxx@yahoo.com. She should be back sometime next week.
Here is what happened at with the DNF: I wrote my part for Round Robin right after you. I was told bluntly that it didn’t fit so I rewrote. Charlotte wrote the next part totally going around yours and mine parts as if they didn’t exist. In the week before I left on vacation I took down my parts of the round robin and apparently no one noticed or cared.
As for the Tour of Duty round robin, I DID NOT give them Room Key to Happiness. Someone asked for some ideas for starting a round robin, I suggested a gay hotel somewhere in California. Someone else started a round robin not me. In mine 7 or 8 paragraphs I had them checking in, one establish gay couple being afraid of being found out (not in the other), and one member of the couple thinking about adding a friend to make their twosome into a threesome (that is definitely not in the other either). The round robin died, and when Charlotte emailing me accusing me of stealing the idea. I told her that didn’t think I had but I would take it down so that it wouldn’t cause any problems.
You see I wrote a story where a TOD gay threesome bought a hotel in California. I also wrote a challenge for CBD where a TOD twosome (Myron and Zeke) owning a gay hotel in Lake Tahoe California where Josiah and JD stayed.
If you remember when you met me, I told you all, that I’m not a nice person when someone betrays me. There is an old saying “With Friends like these you don’t need enemies” … actually I don’t need any of you. From this point onwards none of you exist for me any more.

And any other email you see fit to send me.<<please feel free to include anything you think will work for your page that's "mine." i'll forward you everything regarding the cbd aspect of this issue. TA did, interestingly, post a vacation alert to cbd before she left, including the date of her leaving and her expected time to be gone. i certainly don't discount that if her father truly fell ill [which of course is something just too sticky to outright question without sounding bracingly callous, and as far as he and all that potential goes i have no want to go there] that her time away went longer, but at the least it's something of a benchmark on events. i'll get that to you as well.
>>I also wanted to get your comments to KMFLWA's [Texas Aries alias] excuses that you knew something about TA's supposed illness. (snip quote) Did you know anything about this illness of TA's?<<
no, i didn't know anything about that - even the time i met her she never spoke to me about any ongoing battles for her life because of illness. it could be i wasn't the person she'd choose to confide in, but neither did she ever make any oblique references to needing more time or RL issues at cbd - something that our members do openly from time to time. i'm not sure why she listed me as a 'back me up here' - i wouldn't have lied and done so. not at all, not after all that's happened.
>>One other question, did you ask TA to remove her stories from CBD archive? Or is this something she did on her own? I'd like to make this page as factual as possible.<<
TA removed the stories of her own volition. she made a terse and relatively inoffensive last post to the cbd list that said she was up and leaving and taking her fics with her. she still didn't bother to explain anything or seem remotely contrite.
i did send her a letter about cbd concerns. she wrote me back. i didn't bother to respond. seemed rather futile.
two side notes--
--i find it darkly, ironically amusing that on her new site her story headers for fics written for the cbd group still include all the challenge info. not that it isn't her right to have it there, really, i just think it's funny she could get all irate and have her righteous self bruised and offended and snatch her stuff away from we disbelieving ingrates, but she's fine with retaining that claim to us.
--more amusement and of interest. this is an excerpt from her response to me about the cbd side of things:
"Here is what happened at with the DNF: I wrote my part for Round Robin right after you. I was told bluntly that it didn’t fit so I rewrote. Charlotte wrote the next part totally going around yours and mine parts as if they didn’t exist. In the week before I left on vacation I took down my parts of the round robin and apparently no one noticed or cared."note that she lumps me [of all things! the gall...] in as the mistreated few. note it seems she grants us some sort of solidarity because of it. note also i didn't go apeshit and post the room key story elsewhere just because no one noticed or cared that my part didn't fit. she's a plagiarist, no doubting it, but i also think therein we get a glimpse as to some of what/why - this particular incident at least - came about.
hopefully this will be of use. let me know about anything else and etcs.

Yes, this happened. Not quite as Texas says, however. She did suggest the round robin, with no mention that it was also being done on another list. This alone wouldn't have been a big problem, although we would have preferred to know that it was an idea borrowed from another list.
And one of our members did write the first part – Then Texas promptly posted a second part, which is in the file I've attached. Charlotte's part is first, with a particular phrase highlighted which really caught my eye. In any case, Texas' part is far too similar to Charlotte's to be anything other than plagiarism. Also note in Texas' part, I highlighted a sentence containing the phrase "the sharpshooter" - no one in Tour of Duty fits that description. It's obviously a Mag 7 character.
In any case, Texas had quietly deleted her post of this round robin part from our list. Hoping, no doubt, that we'd never know about it. However, one of our members had it in her e-mail box.
Between this and the other plagiarized story posted on both Notes and another Tour of Duty list, no way did we want to let her stay on our list. This isn't the first time we've had some problems with Texas appropriating something not hers. One of our group had produced some photo manipulations a few years ago, and posted them to the list for people to enjoy. Texas, however, immediately posted both photo manips, without permission or attribution, to her website. When the person who created them found out, she confronted Texas offlist. Texas told her that a friend had sent them to her. Sure. She did take one down but not the other. Also, it's been a running joke that Texas likes to borrow images and certain scene ideas from other authors. Not enough that you could really call it full-blown plagiarism, but uncomfortably close. I quit archiving her stuff for that reason. And since all this happened I've taken all of it off our archive.
She wrote a lengthy, extremely bizarre e-mail under another identity trying to explain how another person was actually responsible for all this. It was completely implausible.
By the way, she did write these other stories she mentions. At least 3 years ago. But they have no relation to nor are they in any way similar to this round robin. Why she brought those up god only knows. Hopefully this answers your questions. Let me know if you need further information.

Thanks so much for participating. We'll place most of your titles on the nominations list. However, because Texas Aries was exposed as being a three-time plagiarist (at the very least), we will be unable to accept any nominations for her stories. I'm sure you must have been unaware of this problem if you are not on the lists which exposed her fraud. We would not be comfortable being unable to detect what work was hers and what might have been someone else's from another fandom with just the character names altered.

All the clues are there, the verb tense confusion, the strange language syntax and the unbelievable personal information. This time it's a journalism student. Which is most preposterious given the overall bad writing skills of the individual. Although, she did manage to change FATHOM to FADOM. But to me, the most telling clue is the name Sugmanitu Hota, it is Lakota and means wolf howl (thank you, cobalt). It's just too big of a coincidence that Texas Aries is now hosting her fiction at a website named Lone Wolf Ficholm.
Also of note is that this individual claims to have read the RR on DnF, which is an impossibility due to the fact that it is a membership list and the story hasn't been posted publicly, again throwing this sock puppet's argument into the fire.

Outsider,
Three times eh? I only saw two and having been reading different fadoms over the last 10 years I have NEVER come across anything like hers. I'm also an in the process of taking journalism. I have been poking around and saw the various posting about the story of whatever that girls name that she was acused of coping and about the RR. It doesn't hold water for me for 1 the story under the rules of plagism is not copiny plus I have seen quite a few of those stories very similar to both of them on different lists ... could that other girl have copied them???
Second that RR stink ... it's interesting because I did read her posting to the RR on Tour of Duty ... funny I don't see where it's the same ... since 1) There is an establish couple, 2) Everyone has to check into a hotel; 3) Her part included a posible threesome and 4) she did create an AU where two of the character's own a gay hotel. From what I have read of that strange RR on DNF it wasn't even similar. The passing of challenge ideas or round robins is very common in other fadom's why not this??? I also read the posting that other girl did confessing to doing this coping ... to think this is texas aries who from the posting have alway been very kind and nice to everyone doesn't make sense. I think some of those people have watch to much X-Files! Come on! Have you ever talked to her about? Ask her side or have you been blinded by other's. Used your head! Blackraptor, Angel and WWOB still has her stories so that tells me that there are many people who don't believe this. So make me wonder if you were part of this witch hunt.
I have asked her very pointly if she did this. Turns out that she didn't and gave a very believable reason of how this happen. She was also away to spend time with her father who is 80 and just diagnose with cancer. A friend that she left in charge of her stuff locked her out and didn't tell her anything of what was going on knowing what this time means for her.
That's why I nominated her. Maybe you should ask and find out yourself before jumping to conclusions. Not everything is a consiracy.
Sugmanitu Hota
I also believe her posting on her website and I have to ask you if you were part of this witch hunt that took place?? If you haven
